Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 at Lynn Massachusetts. She was the first child born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. After her father died as a carnival barker, as a little girl She was required to support the family working both as a maid and server. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston tenement community in Massachusetts. She went to school in Boston. After only two school years, Ruth left to pursue the acting career. Her path was not without obstacles. In New York, her first assignment was to shoot stills in crime magazines. the theatre work that she longed to do was abyssal. Her next job was as an "hat check" woman at a nightclub but she quit and returned to Boston. There, she made ends meet by working as an usher throughout the day, and working at night in the New England Repertory Company, the first job she had that was steady. She has also completed her studies at Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she was a drama student.
